If you’re in the market for a mid range smartphone that won’t break the bank and offer some decent specs for your dollar, then Harvey Norman may have the smartphone you desire.

Harvey Norman are offering Sony’s newest mid-range smartphone, the Xperia M2 for $363 (+ Postage & Handling). Sony announced the Xperia M2 during MWC in Barcelona earlier this year, with the company stating that the Xperia M2 would be available from April locally through major telco’s and retailers, now July it’s taken a while, but it’s now here.

While the Xperia M isn’t aiming to offer flagship, top of the line specs, it certainly does offer some decent specs compared to its predecessor. The full list of specs for the Xperia M2 include:

  • 4.8-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen (960 x 540p)
  • 1.2GHz Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage – expandable to 32GB via MicroSD Card
  • 8MP rear camera, front facing Camera
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0
  • Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
  • 2300mAh Battery
  • Black or White

It is interesting to note that Sony originally announced the Xperia M2 with LTE, the phone that’s being sold by Harvey Norman only appears to have 3G connectivity.

These midrangers…. give them 720p screens. It can’t be that expensive to do. It’s a show stopper.

It’s why, in 2014, I regard such devices as not worth thinking about considering.
Midrang devices should have 16Gb storage, and 720p screen as minimum to be classed as midrange. If they can’t manage that, then as far as I am concerned, such devices are merely budget class.
