Google teases Android 5.0 in a video showing off potential dessert names

Android 5.0 Teaser
We’re oh so close. Android L is rumoured to be launched tomorrow morning, and it seems like even Google doesn’t know what the L version of Android will be called (Lemon Meringue Pie? Lava Cake? Lady Finger? Lemon Drop?….Lollipop?). In this video shared by Sundar Pichai on Google+ this morning the casting call for the dessert to front the next version of Android is on.

There’s all those desserts in there, including an Oreo (no seriously, watch the video).

With the maker of the Android Lawn statues currently at the Googleplex, we’re surely going to know what the next version of Android is very soon…but seriously if it isn’t Lamington we’re gonna lodge a protest.

Dan is a die-hard Android fan. Some might even call him a lunatic. He's been an Android user since Android was a thing, and if there's a phone that's run Android, chances are he owns it (his Nexus collection is second-to-none) or has used it.

Dan's dedication to Ausdroid is without question, and he has represented us at some of the biggest international events in our industry including Google I/O, Mobile World Congress, CES and IFA.

At the end of the Video there are several things on the buffet
Cupcake (1.5)
Donuts (1.6)
Eclair (2.0.x / 2.1)
Froyo (2.2.x)
Gingerbread (2.3.x)
Honeycomb (3.x.x)
Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.x)
Jelly Bean (4.1.x / 4.2.x / 4.3.x)
…and a plate of Lady Fingers (German:Löffelbiscuit).

No Licorice, no Lollipop, no Lava Cake and no Lemon Meringue Pie!
(Also no KitKat but I think this is because of trademark issues.)

I thought I read somewhere the guy who makes the android lawn ornaments give hints towards licorice via twitter?

Lollipop is the smartest bet because it’s a fun name which will appeal to both sexes.

Since the iPhone has gone all girlie with it’s icons, it’d be the smart move by Google to ensure the name also appeals to girls—Lollipop is the only L name which properly achieves this.

I’m not that the only once that doesn’t find licorice ‘sweet’.
