Optus Pre-Paid adds the Huawei Ascend Y520 for $119

Optus Huawei Ascend Y520

Huawei’s Ascend Y520 has made its way to Optus Pre-Paid in the lead-up to Christmas, and it may make an ideal purchase for kids or family members at the friendly price of just $119.  Whilst the Huawei Ascend Y520 isn’t going to break any awards for high end features, however it does offer some pretty decent specs for a descent price.

The full list of specs include:

  • 4.5-inch FWVGA (854 x 480)
  • Dual Core 1.3GHz
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB Memory, expandable to 32GB via microSD
  • 5MP Rear camera, 0.3MP Front facing
  • Android 4.4 (Kit Kat)
  • WiFi: 802.11b/802.11g/802.11n, Bluetooth v4.0
  • 1730mAh Battery
  • Cellular Radio:
    2G: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
    3G: 900/2100 MHz
  • Dimensions: 134.2 × 67 × 10.3 mm @ 160g

I have to say that it is good to see Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) rolling out to low end pre-paid devices from here on in, and I applaud Huawei for this. Though on the other hand only having 512MB RAM is certainly a surprise; for this price I would have expected to see at least 1GB RAM. 512MB doesn’t leave a lot of room to play with on KitKat, and may mean that more resource-hungry apps won’t work too well. For everyone else, though, this should be ideal!

If you are interested in checking out the Huawei Ascend Y520, you can check it out at your local Optus store or purchase it online for $119.

You have to wonder if this is worth the extra $$ over the Y300.
