YouTube Android app finally goes Material

It’s here, folks – the YouTube Android app has finally entered good company by having a Material Design makeover.

The design of the new app isn’t entirely unexpected: things like circular avatars, full-height navigation drawer and a toolbar coated in YouTube’s signature red colour all feature in the YouTube 6.0 update. Channels are receiving a nice makeover, with channel art being sourced to dynamically adjust the colour of the app toolbar. A new launcher icon is also included, bringing it into line with the rest of Google’s app icons.

Material Design isn’t all that’s new though. Google has brought advanced search filters to the app, hopefully making it easier to find that exact same video you saw last week that you want to show your friends.

The update is rolling out now via Google Play, but if you prefer not to wait to “get Material” you can grab the APK and install it manually from APK Mirror.
