[Updated] – Get in the Christmas spirit with free Christmas tracks and albums from Google Play

Santa - Androidified
‘Tis the season and all that, and Google is hitting it early with the gifts, offering up some free music to get you in the mood. For the last couple of months, Google has been giving a few albums away for free and this month there’s two albums for you to add to your Google Play Music library – as well as two random Christmas themed tracks from a couple of fairly well known artists.

The two albums are Play Classical: Christmas and Play Classical: Christmas Favourites, which are full of classical renditions of fairly well known Christmas Carols. There’s renditions from various philharmonic orchestras and some fairly well known singers in the mix including Plácido Domingo.

If that’s not good enough, there’s also two tracks available for free, notably Last Christmas (Single Version) from Wham and All I Want for Christmas is you by Mariah Carey.

Google is also running a focus on Christmas Albums so you can pick up a few albums which seem fairly well priced in there. For example if you want the rest of the Mariah Carey Christmas album, $3.99 will see you right. Jump on over to Google Play to check out the rest of the albums.

Update:
Google has just added two more Christmas albums and a so-called ‘New Years’ album. The albums are free and are named, Play Pop Christmas
Play Christmas Crooners and
Play Classical New Year’s Concert. There’s also a selection of cheap Christmas singles from well known artists selling for just $0.50 per track. From older artists such as ol’ Blue Eyes himself to Bing Crosby all the way through to Elsa herself – Idina Menzel, there’s a few there to choose from, check them out now on Google Play.

Thanks very much for the update, Dan
🙂
Pounced on the Play Classical: New Year’s Concert.

Tracks 4 and 10 from it are ones I’ve been after to use with the UT2003 and 2004 DM map set in Cartwright Hall
Track 9 will be immediately familiar with anyone who has seen 2001: a space odyssey

Annoying.
No anti-Christmas songs up for grabs in this bunch on Google, to help get in the proper mood to deal with this $hopping $eason.

Agreed. I don’t pay for music anyway though.

I like buying the music I enjoy listening to, on Google Play.
Using the I’m Feeling Lucky radio, over the course of the year, I’ve turned up heaps of tracks to buy.
And usually, I’m not adverse to grabbing the freebie albums Google puts up.
The ones they have up for grabs for Xmas 2014 though… Too much of the same ugly Muzak I cop from the PA systems in the shopping centres over the previous 2 months.
It’s why I would dearly love to see an album of anti-Christmas songs.

I’d buy music if it were cheaper, or pay for streaming if my data plan was cheap in Australia, but it’s just too expensive for what you pay for right now in Australia.

It’s because of that, I am so hardcore for microSD support on devices.
So I can use my regular ADSL2+ connection for the bulk of my streaming and listening, toss what I buy, on the microSD for listening to on the go, and keep my mobile internet for general data and calls.

Yeah I have 100gb of music to date, so I definitely need the storage.
