Inbox for Google Apps users. It’s one of the things we want most in the world. We heard some rumours last week that it’s coming sooner rather than later and some new information has appeared today, although it’s probably not quite what you wanted to hear.
The Google For Work blog says they intend to roll out Inbox for Google Apps accounts slowly over “the coming months” with an early access program slowly spreading across selected Google Apps accounts. Presumably Google wants to take the time to ensure companies get the most out of Inbox and see whether it’s working for them.
Google Apps Administrators can apply to be in this early access program by emailing email@example.com from their Administrator account. Google says not everyone who applies will be accepted straight away, but they’ll expand the program over time. Early access users should be willing to work with Google on user studies, too.
It’s implied that Google won’t be simply transitioning Inbox functionality to Apps users, but may be working on some different functions and capabilities for them. Hopefully some of those goodies will make their way back to standard personal Inbox users too.
Has your organisation applied for early access to Inbox for Work? What features would you like to see from the system? Tell us in the comments!
