Optus Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 (4.0)

Optus has added another new phone to their pre-paid line of mobiles with the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 (4.0) now available for $59.

The addition of this latest Alcatel phone to the Optus pre-paid line up comes after Alcatel launched its latest line up of devices back in mid March. At the launch, Alcatel stated that the entry level Pixi 3 is an “OS-agnostic” phone meaning it could be launched with either Android, Windows or FireFox OS’ running on the device – though Optus have decided that the new OneTouch Pixi 3 (4.0) would run Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) right out of the box.

Spec wise, the Alcatel OneTouch Pixi 3 (4.0) isn’t going to win any awards but it does offer at least some decent specs for the market and also has a range of brightly coloured covers available for users to personalise their new phone.

The full list of specs include:

  • 4.0” HVGA Display (320 x 480)
  • 1GHz DUAL core Processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB onboard storage with 2GB end user memory, expandable to 32GB via microSD
  • 2MP Rear camera with the ability to shoot 3MP Photo’s via software, VGA front facing
  • Bluetooth V4.0, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
  • Android 4.4 (Kit Kat)
  • 1400 mAh Removable Battery
  • Network Connectivity:
    • 2G: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
    • 3G: 900/2100 MHz
  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 121.6 x 64.4 x 11.6mm @ 113g

Though it’s a bit disappointing to see Kit Kat on the phone at launch, if there’s a big enough response to the handset, we may see a Lollipop update for the phone down the track.

It is worth also mentioning that as this device is network locked to Optus, should you wish to use it on another network, unlocking fees will apply. To find out more about unlocking fees, you can check out the Optus website for more.

The Pixi 3 qualifies for the current Optus promotion which gives 3-months of Netflix access with their pre-paid phones, making this $59 phone a little more interesting if you’re wanting Netflix.
