Hmmm, kids/car tablet?

JeniSkunk

Kids tablet, barely maybe. It’s on KK so you can’t install apps to the SD card. So any even slightly space hungry kids game will put a real dent in that paltry 2Gb of on-board user storage. As a video consumption device, it won’t be worth spit, unless you downscale transcode your video content before putting it on the microSD for viewing on that tablet. The screen in it is too low a native res to do standard 720p HD. As a kids camera, you can buy better for cheaper at the major department stores. Comparing this to the Pixi… Read more »

Jenny, not everyone can afford high end tablet with data connectivity. Let be honest this is a serious tender for a kids tablet. I am seriously considering purchasing a couple of the tablets for when I look after my nephews and nieces.

Most kids apps/games aren’t using most of the devices memories as they rather utilise an internet connection to get more vibrant colours and smoother gaming experience for kids and parents alike. I think you sometimes have to take the bad with the good.

Yes specs wise its a meh but on price its pretty damn good

I made mention of the Pixi 3 8in tablet, as Alcatel seems to be positioning it as the replacement model for this 7in.
I didn’t say anything about the data connectivity at all on this Pixi 7in tablet, Alex. Mobile data access is something that I think should be in more tablets at all levels of the marketspace, and not solely in the highest end of the high end of the marketspace.

“It’s on KK so you can’t install apps to the SD card.”

Yes you can. There are a number of free apps for KitKat that allow you to do so.

“As a video consumption device, it won’t be worth spit, unless you downscale transcode your video content before putting it on the microSD for viewing on that tablet.”

720p (1080p etc) video can be played on lower resolution screens without transcoding.

There are no other 3G capable tablets in this price range. You can even use it as a phone with bluetooth headset.
