Next-gen Motorola Moto G and Moto X Sport Leak – both models could be unveiled next month?

Motorola

Reports have begun to surface that Motorola Moto X and Motorola Moto G 2015 models are set to be unveiled in next month (August).

In this newest leak, the Moto X hasn’t made the cut or at least hasn’t appeared, but a new model called the ‘Moto X Sport’ as well as the new Motorola Moto G have appeared in a slideshow from Chile’s largest telecom firm, Entel.

What is interesting is that the Motorola Moto X Sport appears to be different from the third-generation Motorola Moto X, which is still expected to the launched in the near future. What the Moto X Sport will bring in addition to the Moto X isn’t clear, but with a name such as sport, we could see some sort of waterproofing or ruggedisation in line with a more active lifestyle.

There are leaked images from Entel, which show the Moto X Sport carrying a 5.2-inch screen and is the same size display as the current, second-gen Moto X. Furthermore, you can see from the slide that the Moto X Sport will feature a 16MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing cameras, which compares well to the current rear-facing 13MP camera and the front-facing 2MP shooter on the second-generation Moto X. In addition to this, Entel also say that the Moto X Sport will feature a a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU powering the device under the hood, however, the make and model of the SoC haven’t being mentioned.

As for the new Moto G, the slide shows that the follow up version will include a 5-inch screen, just like the current Moto G has. In addition to this, the next-gen Moto G will include a 13MP camera and a 5MP front-facing cameras, which will make for quite a nice update from the current Moto G’s 8MP/2MP camera’s. The upcoming Moto G will get a boost to its speed with the CPU now believed to be clocked at 1.4GHz quad-core CPU compared to 1.2GHz quad-core CPU on the current generation of the Moto G.

Whilst these leaks look pretty good, carriers are certainly briefed on upcoming handsets long before the launch of actual handsets; we’ll have to of course wait for the official announcements. However if these details are correct, they look pretty good. We certainly hope that Motorola Australia can get these units to our shores in a timely manner this time.

1GB RAM, quad core, weak camera in 2015?Nothing wrong with them putting it on market but pricing needs to be ~$199 IMO.

No longer midrange specs unfortunately. Chinese manufacturers are doing a superb job of filling our market with good phones that will last or outlast a 2 year new handset cycle at $250-$350.

Won’t buy moto phone ever again.

Why is that?

I’m a happy Sony Xperia Z2 owner, but the ‘stock’-like software of the Moto phones have me intrigued.
