HTC loosens its Grip – fitness tracker to launch later this year alongside other fitness products

News reaches us this morning that HTC’s temporarily shelved its Grip fitness band – revealed at Mobile World Congress and due for release about now – and will release it along with other fitness products later this year.

Android Central has a statement from HTC on the matter:

“Through our partnership with Under Armour, we have continued to refine our vision and approach to the health and fitness category. Our goal is to offer best-in-class products for our customers and partners. After extensive wear testing and user feedback, we have decided to align GRIP with the entire product portfolio for health and fitness launching later this year. This will be a state-of-the-art comprehensive portfolio of products for this category powered by UA RECORD. We are excited to launch this new comprehensive product suite and will share further details as we get closer to launch.”

While the Grip wasn’t slated for an Australian release yet, the delay is still notable. Dan tried the Grip out himself at MWC, and came away impressed with the company’s first collaboration with Under Armour. It seems that HTC is preparing to release a larger suite of fitness products later in the year.

Check out Dan’s hands-on (“wrist-on?” “on-wrist?”) report from earlier this year.

Is the HTC Grip the fitness tracker you want on your wrist? Tell us in the comments!
