Sony’s Xperia Z5 series of phones are coming to Australia very soon. We have a launch event next week where we expect to see information on Austrlaian availability for the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact, with Sony advising a November rollout for the Xperia Z5 Premium. If you’ve been waiting for this then you may want to let Sony know by registering your interest on their website.

Sony is asking for your name and email address on their website, and they should be in contact with all the information as soon as it’s available.

The Xperia Z5 series are extremely nicely designed and promise 2-day battery life across the range even on their insanely high resolution Xperia Z5 Premium. The camera was recently announced as the best of the bunch by DxOMark with an 87 rating, so it’s definitely a phone to take notice of. If you’re in need a refresher on specs, here’s a comparison table:

Dan is a die-hard Android fan. Some might even call him a lunatic. He's been an Android user since Android was a thing, and if there's a phone that's run Android, chances are he owns it (his Nexus collection is second-to-none) or has used it.

Dan's dedication to Ausdroid is without question, and he has represented us at some of the biggest international events in our industry including Google I/O, Mobile World Congress, CES and IFA.

This chart seems to suggest capless Micro USB only on the premium? Isn’t that across the range?

I’m really on the fence here between Nexus 6P and Z5… if Sony availability is good, I may just go Z5. Yeah the delay in updates sucks a little, but the updates do come. My wife’s 2 year old Z1 has LP 5.1.1.

I thought everything but the Compact had the capless.

I’m pretty sure they’re all capless.

How soon did Xperia Z3 get Lollipop
when Google released it on Nexus in Nov 2014?

Cool, just registered. I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on the green Z5.

No doubt they will all be rip off prices. With the way the aussie dollar is at the moment no new phones coming to Australia will be cheap anymore.

iPhone 6S is crazy expensive
Samsung S6 Range is crazy expensive
Moto X series is crazy expensive for what it is
Google’s new Nexus phones are crazy expensive.

Sigh….

A few weeks ago Sony AU had the Compact and regular Z5 on their site for a few days and the prices match what I was told by someone who worked in a Sony store.

Compact – $899
Z5 – $999
Premium = $1199 (Premium wasn’t listed on the site but that’s what I was told in store)

that 4k screen isn’t cheap

I couldn’t believe the price difference compared to online purchase when I bought my Z3c this time last year. Then, when it arrived, I installed the Australian firmware, (very simple to do).

I’d do the same again. It’s been the best droid phone I’ve owned.
