Kogan has LG Nexus 5X listed for sale … almost

nexus-5x-kogan

A keen eyed Ausdroid reader (Hey, Irwin!) has spotted the LG Nexus 5X listed on Kogan’s website, well in advance of any announced retail availability. Kogan have had wins in the past with parallel imports of popular handsets, and while it’s unclear how (or whether) they’ve secured stock from overseas, it’s certainly a promising development.

Starting at $549 for the 16GB model and $629 for the 32GB model, the Nexus 5X is available in all three colour variants via Kogan’s listings — white, black and teal. At the moment, of course, all the devices are showing as Sold Out, but it’s a fairly sure sign that the handsets may well become available from Kogan in the near future.

We’ll keep an eye out, and let you know if anything changes!

Problem with buying from Kogan is that you don’t know what version you’re getting because Kogan don’t know what version they’re selling. They tender out (using their “ebay for suppliers”) to wholesalers around the world for a phone model but don’t specify a variant, and suppliers sell Kogan whatever variant they can get. Kogan sales people can’t find out for you, either. Problem is that getting a version that supports Aus frequencies has become a bigger deal than most people realise, and Kogan don’t care. The variant sold in Aus is usually sold in multiple countries overseas, so it’s not… Read more »

Is there any way to know what version you receive afterwards? I haven’t come across model numbers for the different versions. I’d definitely bite for $549 though.

Hmmm… Still a bit pricey for me, personally, but still far better than $659.

$629 for the 32gb 5x is pretty sharp pricing from Kogan. They probably saw the reaction to the prices and saw a way in with the international model. The question is now whether will i miss the 700Mhz band or $100 difference more. Curse you, choice!

So it’s the US version then?

That’s more like it. No band 28, but my OnePlus Two doesn’t have it and I paid more for that.

Actually, the OPT has a faster processor, double the RAM, double the storage space, dual sims, a larger display and a larger battery. I think I’ll pass on the N5X. 😛

… and no NFC.

To be fair, OPT is really good device, but no NFC is just peculiar.

Phew. That’s a price.
That definitely is a price.

International stock, so no 700 MHz, though it’s worth considering for those importing anyway.

What does this mean for someone on optus? Not as much 4G reception?

Band 28 – 700Mhz, IS on the international version.

Specs go as (from the google site)
North America:B1/2/3/4/5/7/12/13/17/20/25/26/29/41
Hong Kong:B1/3/7/8/26/38/40/41
International:B1/2 /3/ 4/5/7/8/9/17/18/19/20/26/28/38/40/41

so the question becomes, is it the Hong Kong or US version?

It seems this price is much cheaper than the leaked price before. Also no mention about 6p?

It’s pretty much about it if you directly convert the US price (379 USD) into AUD, which comes to around $547.

I’m very curious about the source of their goods though…Google has stated clearly that you can only buy Nexus 5X from official google store.

They still have distribution partners. I was considering importing a blue 5X from the UK so I emailed a couple of stores, but CarPhoneWarehouse got exclusivity for that colour. Others still have black and white on same day as Play Store release and in Clove’s case, even a bit cheaper.
