Telstra have today announced their Sydney New Year’s Eve App has been updated in anticipation of celebrations kicking off on the 31st of this month on the shores of Sydney Harbour. There’s an awful lot going on, as there always is, and the City of Sydney have a wealth of information about the various events on their website.

This is the fourth year that Telstra and the City of Sydney have partnered for the New Years celebrations. The Telstra app, which is published in the Play Store now under the City of Sydney developer listing, was updated recently for 2015 with this years features, removing references to last year’s Google Cardboard integration and giveaway.

This year, the focus of the app is availability, with Telstra streaming the 9pm and midnight fireworks display through the app to users devices anywhere in Australia, or across the globe. While you’ll have to pay for data, the app does give you an option to send out up to 50 SMS messages you can set up prior to the night for free.

As well as the live video stream and 50 ‘Midnight Messages’ you can also, if you’re in the area, check out maps which show you the best vantage points around the harbour to view the display. Telstra will also be providing users with ‘exciting content’ in the app in the lead up to New Years Eve and event news on the night.

Telstra General Manager of Loyalty & Partnerships, Mr Fady Taouk said that Telstra is thrilled to once again support such a breathtaking event, saying ‘Telstra is delighted to collaborate with City of Sydney and provide audiences in Australia and globally with the opportunity to connect with one of the biggest New Year’s Eve spectacles in the world’.

As usual, Telstra will be providing both an iOS and Android app, the Android app is now available on Google Play and you can find links to the iOS app on the Telstra New Years Eve website.

The app was not found in the store. 🙁
