Asus Chromebook Flip
Asus Australia has confirmed that their latest Chromebook, the aptly named ‘Flip’, which comes with a touchscreen and innovative hinge design that allows the Chromebook to be fully flipped around into tablet mode, is available to purchase in Australia.

Priced at $599, the Chromebook isn’t going to be easy to get your hands on, but it is possible. The Chromebook is available through a number of retailers on StaticIce, as well as through a range of Australian resellers, and according to Asus, their online store – though we can’t actually see a ‘Buy’ button on the entry.

So, with that sort of price tag, should you be buying one? Well, it’s certainly a good looking device and the convertible form factor, which allows you to use the Chrombook in laptop, tablet, stand and tent modes thanks to that 360° hinge, adds versatility to the platform. Spec wise, the Chromebook Flip has a lot to be proud of as well:

  • 10.1″ 16:10 WXGA (1280×800)/Wide View Angle LED Backlight Glare panel
  • Rockchip Quad-Core RK3288C Processor, with Integrated Rockchip® Mali T764 GPU
  • 16GB onboard storage with card reader (Micro SD Micro SDXC Micro SDHC )
  • HD Web Camera
  • Integrated 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and Built-in Bluetooth™ V4.0
  • Built-in 2 Speaker(s) And Digital Microphone
  • Chrome OS
  • 2Cells 31 Whrs Battery
  • 262.8 x 182.4 x 15.6 mm (WxDxH) @ 0.89KG

While the Chromebook is available here in Australia now, you can actually do quite well price wise importing the Chromebook Flip from the US, through online retailer Amazon. Amazon sells the Chromebook Flip for US$202.80 (~$284.05AUD) for the 2GB model and US$304.24 (~$426.14AUD) for the 4GB model. Amazon will of course charge shipping, but even then the price is still a bit better than what you can do locally – though your warranty will be based in the US.

If you’ve been wanting to get your hands on the Asus Chromebook Flip, now’s as good a time as any – a new school year will be starting shortly and of course Christmas is now less than a week away.

Is the Chromebook Flip for you?
