WhatsApp tops 1 billion monthly active users

whatsapp-tfj

Facebook-owned WhatsApp is a big player in the messaging arena – in fact, one of the biggest, and this morning they’ve announced – moments after Google – that they have topped the 1 billion monthly active users mark.

The app’s userbase has continued to grow, accelerating when Facebook purchased the company in early 2014 and shows no immediate signs of slowing down.

Regardless of platform – and WhatsApp’s service is available on 37 of them – that is a huge milestone, and one well worth celebrating.

The company did face a few hurdles in recent months including well-publicised blocking of Telegram links, the app being blocked in some countries and an unexpected outage over new years. They bounced back in January announcing that the service will remain free.

Are you a WhatsApp user? What do you think of the service? Tell us in the comments!
