Instagram is getting pinch to zoom today on iOS – coming to Android in the coming weeks

Instagram Logo
Pinch to zoom is a mainstay of gestures across mobile devices. It’s a great way to get extra detail on anything and it’s coming to Instagram.

In a post today Instagram has announced that iOS users will be getting an update that will allow them to pinch to zoom on photos and videos in their stream, while Android users will have to wait for a few weeks. The feature will, as Instagram points out let you ‘Dive into an adorable puppy’s smile or into every detail of your friend’s new shirt’.

It will take a little while to arrive, but if you’ve been dying to get a closer look at something on Instagram, relax it will be here soon.

Dan is a die-hard Android fan. Some might even call him a lunatic. He's been an Android user since Android was a thing, and if there's a phone that's run Android, chances are he owns it (his Nexus collection is second-to-none) or has used it.

Dan's dedication to Ausdroid is without question, and he has represented us at some of the biggest international events in our industry including Google I/O, Mobile World Congress, CES and IFA.

Since an update last week I can also zoom on Android.

While it’s always annoying when iOS gets feature updates before Android, the (understandable) delays are generally much shorter than they used to be. It’s great that developers now take Android a lot more seriously. App support is very good these days.

Wow, I thought it would never happen!

I just updated the Instagram app on my iPod but it didn’t have the pinch to zoom functionality. I guess there’ll be another update soon.
