AXON 7 mini-3

Earlier this week rumours of a Mini version of ZTE’s new flagship the Axon 7 began to do the rounds. At last nights IFA press event, ZTE not only announced the new device but also listed Australia as one of the first markets to be getting the mini powerhouse.

The Axon 7 Mini follows a recent trend with OEMs releasing a slightly smaller version of their flagship devices, although at 5.2″ many may feel this isn’t really that small. These devices typically go one of two ways, firstly it is a smaller version of the flagship device with almost identical specs, the second is it is a lower tiered device across the board and typically shares styling and a few features.

The Axon 7 mini falls into the latter category, but that’s not to say that the Axon 7 Mini won’t be a good performer, it’s just not a “flagship” phone in a ‘smaller’ case. The Axon 7 Mini is still sporting some decent specs including 5.2″ FHD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 617, 3Gb of RAM, 32GB of storage USB C, 13MP rear facing camera, fingerprint sensor, NFC and stereo front facing Dolby speakers.

How much is this you may ask, we’ve asked for official Australian pricing, however, based on the European costs it will come in around the $450 – $500 AUD mark, at that price it could be one of the best low to mid cost devices on the market. The proof of the pudding is always in the reviewing however at sub-$500 with nothing missing, ZTE may just have a hit on their hands if they get the software right, if not the modding community may well adopt this phone.

With ZTE bringing their Axon line in addition to their other devices such as the Blade series this could be a very good year for ZTE Australia. We have asked ZTE for details on the apparent Australian release of the Axon 7 Mini, however with the Axon 7 due to be launched in Australia soon and the typical carrier testing more than likely still to be undertaken we may not be seeing it this year.

What do you think of the Axon 7 line? Let us know below.

What is ZTE like when it comes to software updates?

Isn’t the 617 similar to the gimped 615 that lags after a few months .

Looks like a great little device! With those specs, I don’t think it’ll have the Daydream ready tag like it’s bigger sibling. Really keen to check one out. The ZTE Axon 7 is a very slick device.
