Samsung has fully acknowledged the fiery issue of the Note 7 handset, and is urging customers to back up the device, power it down and return it to the place of purchase for exchange or refund. To help with returning the device, Samsung sent XDA-Developers a Thermally-Insulated Box to return the device in.
According to the site, they had already returned their device, but they were still sent this package from Samsung which included the thermally-insulated box, blue protective gloves – they’re rubber so not terribly protective in the event of a fire – and a set of instruction on how to pack it up and send it back.
The instructions are fairly self explanatory, but the XDA team has recorded a video showing off the package they received.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is still not officially recalled at this stage, though the original recall from September 6th is still listed on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) website.
There have been no instances reported so far of replacement Galaxy Note 7 handsets catching on fire in Australia as yet, however one has been reported by New Zealand carrier Spark. According to Spark’s chief executive of mobile Jason Paris the phone was brought into a store by the customer after the phone overheated and caught fire. The customer was safe, unharmed & no property damage was recorded, but it shows the issue is possibly affecting more handsets.
At this stage, Samsung’s advice is best: Backup your data, power the device down and return it to your place of purchase for an exchange or refund.
