There’s been a transition in Android Wear away from the more traditional OEMs and more towards traditional watch makers releasing new smart watches. Today we’re seeing watch maker Movado announce a new partnership that will see Android Wear watches launch this year.

There will be 5 watches released in ‘mens styles’ at Baselworld 2017, with the collection of watches to start at $495USD and will feature up to 3-4 customisable elements including ‘a wide array of complications, backgrounds, and watch hands ‘. The new watches will be powered by Android Wear 2.0 and have Android Pay compatability.

As well as these five watches, two other more familiar brands from the Movadao Group, Tommy Hilfiger and Hugo Boss, have announced they too are also partnering with Google with collections launching in fall of 2017.

Efraim Grinberg, Chairman & CEO, Movado Group said of the announcement

The launch of Movado Connect marks another new milestone in Movado’s longstanding history of creativity and innovation in watch design. We are very proud of our collaboration with Google and for the opportunity to provide our customers with an incredibly designed timepiece, powered by the latest, cutting-edge technology platform. Movado Connect, with our proprietary edge-to-edge crystal design, is iconically Movado.

The bad news for this announcement is that they intend to only release the watches in the US, the Caribbean, Canada and the UK – but we can live in hope.

Baselworld runs from March 23-30 so we’ll see more about the watches when they’re unveiled there.
