Ausdroid staff and readers alike love using Google’s Chromecast to watch our favourite entertainment by casting it from our phones and tablets straight to our big screen TV’s.

When he reviewed the Chromecast 2 a year ago Ausdroid Editor Dan said that compared to the Chromecast 1:

There’s only some differences in hardware but I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my Chromecast quality. The 5GHz band means I get less interruptions on the Chromecast when it’s trying to access the network; Streams on the Chromecast 2 were also faster to start up.

Without doubt, without the ethernet adapter they sell in the US, the Chromecast 2 is definitely the best option to get if you’ve been having issues with slow response or network issues at home.

So we thought readers would definitely be interested in a deal where you don’t have to pay the usual $50-odd to buy a Chromecast 2.

Harvey Norman is currently advertising the Chromecast 2 on sale for $38 Click & Collect or + $7.95 for delivery.

However as keen Ausdroid bargain hunters will be aware, Officeworks has a price beat policy which means that if you find a lower price on an identical stocked item that’s in stock with an Officeworks competitor even if it’s on sale, they will not only match it, they’ll beat it by 5%.

$38 less 5% is $36.10 and several people have reported that Officeworks has sold them single and multiple Chromecasts for this price. Since Officeworks usual Chromecast 2 price is $55, you could buy 3 of them with price beat applied for $108.30, whereas usually $110 could only get you 2 of them.

It’s an excellent deal to upgrade from your Chromecast 1 or to give as a gift to family members who want to watch Google Play Movies and TV content without having to connect their laptop to their TV via an HDMI cable or Screen mirror a tablet/phone to their TV (which burns up a lot of mobile device battery).
