LastPass announce LastPass Families a new service to help you get your whole tribe secure

For those who practice good online security habits it’s likely that you’ve either heard of LastPass or you’re already using it (or another password manager). Today LastPass has announced a new family-focused service to sit alongside their personal and enterprise focused offerings.

Specific details on LastPass Families are currently a little unclear, but it looks as if the new product will provide similar sharing features as LastPass’s enterprise service, with a focus on sharing between up to six family members. Using Families will allow subscribers to set up any combination of sharing folders, permission and even emergency access policies for emergency situations.

As with LastPass’ existing offerings, this will be a paid subscription service. The details of the cost/ payment options are not yet available, but LastPass has historically offered its services at wallet-friendly price points.

I’ve set up many family and friends with LastPass and usually had to make sure that everyone who wants to share passwords or vault contents (eg credit card numbers or bank account details – it’s not just for passwords) is a LastPass Premium user; perhaps the family option will be more economical? It’s also good to see that LastPass skews its family pretty large, with up to 6 members instead of the four you might expect.

Existing LastPass Premium members who want to try LastPass Families will receive 6 months free access to the new service.

If you’re interested in Families, LastPass will be running an early access beta program. You’ll get to access the service early for free, in exchange for your thoughts and feels. Register here.

Do you use a personal password manager? Have you considered using a family-oriented service like this? Tell us in the comments!

I’m a long time LastPass user and I’ve been trying to convince my wife to start using a password manager for ages. Perhaps this will be the final trigger?!
