Owning a backup USB power bank has become part and parcel of modern smartphone ownership. I’m always on the lookout for a new battery at a good price despite owning a few high capacity models, and I leave a few low capacity models around the place at work or at the parents’ house.

OzBargain is today showing a Big W deal that’s good for an emergency backup in a pinch – a 4,000 mAh Belkin Mixit power bank for just $14 – that’s 50% off. The power banks are available in black, blue and pink colours from Big W (there are some other colours, but that’s all we can see on the website) and feature two USB-A ports for charging devices.

4,000 mAh is enough to give most Android phones more or less a full battery charge, and this model from Belkin is small enough to fit in a pouch in your backpack or carry bag, so you can have it on hand if needed and if you have a more modern Android phone you’ll probably be able to pick up a USB-A to USB-C cable to keep in your bag.

Belkin has impressed us with their battery packs recently, claiming spots in the bags of a few members of the Ausdroid crew. Some of Belkin’s more upmarket models also include Quick Charge support and some innovative designs that keep cables and adapters magnetically attached to the power bank when not in use. If these lower-end batteries serve you well, maybe you’ll look to Belkin for your future battery needs?

Will you be picking up a Belkin Mixit power bank from Big W? Do you have a different preferred power bank? Tell us in the comments!

I got a 10,000mAH unit for $30 from Officeworks a couple of years back. It has a 1A and a 2.1A output so can charge at a reasonable rate. I can charge phone + tablet and have a bit spare. I’ve also got a 13,000mAH Huawei battery that is pretty heavy by modern standards, so I tend not to carry that one.
