September security updates now available for Pixel and Nexus users — full update and OTA links

Oreo has only been out for a short time but that doesn’t stop Google from rolling out security updates to their devices. After OTA updates started heading out to relevant devices yesterday Google has today provided links to not just the OTA update but, as usual, the full factory image with security update included.

The September security update resolves thirty issues including fixes to patch the “BlueBorne” Bluetooth vulnerability. This vulnerability was one that required Bluetooth to be on, and that is it. No user interaction is/was required for the hacker to take control of your device unbeknownst to the user.

The other vulnerabilities range from moderate to critical and if you would like to read more into what Google have patched with this update head on over and check out their security bulletin.

The new security updates are available for the following devices:

  • Pixel XL
  • Pixel
  • Pixel C
  • Nexus 6P
  • Nexus 5X
  • Nexus 6
  • Nexus 9 LTE
  • Nexus 9 Wi-Fi

At this stage there is no monthly update available for the Nexus Player but we expect to see that soon along with a few bug fixes to it’s networking.

It you have not received the OTA for your device yet you can head into settings and trigger it in the System Updates section of the Settings app (worked for me) or you can head over to Google’s relevant pages for the OTA images or the full factory images.

Here at Ausdroid we always recommend you keep your device as secure as possible so we encourage you to get on the front foot and install these security updates ASAP.

My OTA update to Oreo for my Nexus 6P finally arrived this morning and already included the September security update, which is pretty good service in my view!

Well done, Scott,
I triggered the update in the system settings as you suggested. That’s new to me! Worked like a charm! Nexus 6.
Cheers,
Allan Thomas
