Oreo update for Huawei Mate 9 coming soon

Earlier this year rumours leaked out that Huawei were already preparing an Oreo update for the Huawei Mate 9. Now that Oreo is official Huawei look set to roll it out to their power flagship of this year.

Today the Huawei Mate 9 has shown up on Geekbench running Android 8.0. There is little else to be ascertained from the results except that it must be ready to go for Huawei to be leaking this to the world — you can be sure this is a controlled leak, all manufacturers do it.

There is no detail on when it will arrive, but given that Huawei will be announcing the Mate 10 lineup on October 16 we expect it to be after that. The Mate 10 series will be the first series to run the latest update to their Android skin, EMUI 6.0. Given that these updates usually include EMUI bumps along with the Android number update we expect that the Mate 9 will be running EMUI 6.0 in some form.

If you have a Mate 9 hit us up on one of our social media channels or our email tipline if you see the update arrive on your phone. It is only a few weeks until we see the Mate 10 arrive so keep an eye out for the update notification soon.

Still waiting looks like it’s not getting an update at all 🤔🤔

Huawei Australia either cannot or will not issue timely OS & Security updates. Huawei blames the carriers and the carriers blame Huawei. The Australian Huawei P9 received Nougat almost one year after the promised date.

Best to avoid Huawei products unless you’re in the market for something from their cheap & nasty supermarket lines because Huawei are capable of great hardware but their software sucks.
