NSW residents can now get the official Fuel Watch app

The NSW Government has announced a companion mobile app for their FuelCheck website has been launched in both Google Play and the Apple app store.

The app, which was launched by the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian alongside NSW Minister for Finance, Services and Property, Victor Dominello, and Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation Matt Kean. At the launch Ms Berejiklian said that

This new app is a game changer for motorists and enables them to find the best deal by price, location, fuel type and brand. By giving motorists a bird’s-eye view of the market they can find the cheapest fuel anywhere in the state, providing them with much needed relief at the hip pocket.

The app joins a stable of fuel checking apps available in Australia including crowd-sourced fuel price app GasBuddy, as well as offerings from 7Eleven and Woolworths. The FuelWatch app adds a more official face to the issue of finding the cheapest fuel from your mobile.

Mr Dominello said the FuelWatch app includes all of the popular websites functions alongside some multiple exciting new features to make finding the best fuel price in your area much more easily.

The app includes a Favourite Stations function, which allows users to save their favourite petrol stations and receive a notification when the petrol reaches their chosen price. A My Trip function utilises Google Maps to enable users to find the cheapest petrol station on their journey and direct them to the station.

Mr Kean said that the app includes a Trends page, which shows the cheapest day of the week to fill up along with the the day’s price range.

Mr Kean, Mr Dominello and Ms Berejiklian urged and reminded consumers that should the price at the pump not match what is shown on the app, motorists can make a complaint directly to NSW Fair Trading either via the website or by calling 13 32 30.

The FuelWatch app is free to use and having a little bit of time playing around with it, I have to say that I prefer it over the third-party apps like GasBuddy or the 7Eleven Lowest Price app, and the MotorMouth drivers app which have previously showed delayed pricing locally. You can hit the link below to download the FuelWatch app from Google Play directly and check it out for yourself.

    • Not sure. Victoria have been talking about it but as of yet, nothing sadly. I suggest approaching your local state member in Victoria about this

  • I think it's called FuelCheck :)
I'm using it on iPhone 7+, and it works fine. Figured out that if you set a favourite station, you get notifications when the price drops. Pretty handy.
The zoom is funny, because it seems to be locked at a certain point. Assuming that's so the screen doesn't get filled with little icons. It zooms out enough to use, and you can easily just find the area you need.
