HTC have had a rocky few years but seem to be heading in the right direction of late. They are hoping to continue to steer the ship in the right direction with their all new HTC U11 life announced today.
The HTC U11 life is HTC’s first Android One handset but still includes so many of the features of the Ull family than have seen them receive rave reviews everywhere.
The phone has HTC’s Edge Sense which can be programmed to open any app, any utility within an app or to access Google Assistant or Alexa. Yes, you heard right, Alexa on an Android One device — Android is all about choices isn’t it?
HTC USonic is included which gives the user automatic Active Noise Cancellation, Hi-Res Audio 24-bit sound quality from the Usonic earbuds. The noise cancelling monitors the surrounding noises and adjusts to any new noises quickly and automatically. Of course the audio is run through the USB-C port due to the lack of a headphone jack.
The U11 had a great camera and HTC hope to continue this installing a 16MP shooter in the life as opposed to the 12 MP camera in the U11. The camera includes PDAF and HDR Boost promising lag-free high quality HDR photos. The front camera is also 16MP and includes HTC’s UltraPixel technology to improve those low light selfies.
The design is similar to the brilliant U11 design with their “liquid surface design philosophy” with a “durable” acrylic glass back with vibrant colours. The life is IP67-rated so can be taken out in the elements without having to worry about a bit of rain damaging it.
The HTC U11 life is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 with just 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The storage can be increased with a microSD card of up to 256GB. The display is a 5.2 inch 1080P display with a 16:9 aspect ratio powered by a 2600mAh battery.
The software underneath it all is Android 7.1 Nougat with an upgrade to Oreo promised within thirty days. There is a HTC Sense skin over the top (which does make you wonder what exactly is the definition of Android One now). The HTC U11 life will come in Sapphire Blue and Ice White.
At this stage there is no word on Australian availability or pricing but have reached out to HTC Australia for further details. We will keep you posted.
