Google announced the release of the full version of ARCore at MWC this year and we have already seen quite a few very useful apps using it. Unfortunately only a fraction of users have phones that are compatible with ARCore and surprisingly Samsung’s latest flagship is not one of them.

For those who have forked out for a new Galaxy S9 or S9+ it is extremely disappointing that both of last years Samsung flagships support ARCore but the newest one does not.

After hearing what you would expect to be a large volume of complaints about this a member of the ARCore team has commented on GitHub suggesting that ARCore compatibility for the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be arriving in the next few weeks:

While it is great to see the compatibility coming soon it is disappointing that the support wasn’t there out of the box. If you want to see which phones do support ARCore head over to the ARCore website and check out all the model numbers with support.

Even though ARCore is in its infancy there are already some great real world uses for it (I was a sceptic at first) and you can be sure that the list will continue to grow daily. If you have an ARCore compatible device I urge you to check out some of their apps and for those Galaxy S9 owners, don’t fret support is on the way.

Most of the time I stay quiet. I either can’t afford the latest tech or it’s simply an overpriced, non-upgrade that does nothing new – except maybe if I was 12.

I recently took advantage of the Nokia N8 sales and now have an amazing phone that kicks butt over price and functionality of other name brands.

I make calls, I send texts, I take a few photos – and I have days of battery longevity.

Admittedly, i’m on a tight budget though, yet I’ll always prefer usual functionality over features.
