While the main focus of Samsung’s announcement overnight have been the more premium Galaxy Tab S4, the more family focused Galaxy Tab A5 has also been announced offering a more budget friendly tablet in the same size with a great array of features.
The tablet is budget friendly, so the specs aren’t as high end as the Tab S4 and there’s no S Pen or DeX desktop mode but it still offers a great array of specs that will handle all the day to day tasks a family could ask of a tablet such as viewing movies or listening to music, playing games, surfing the web and more.
Fitting with the family focused theme of the launch, you can create multiple accounts on the tablet including kid accounts using the kids mode Samsung has created which has a ‘child-friendly’ interface and an array of family friendly games pre-installed including Toca Hair Salon 3 and BRIO World – Railway. There’s also what Samsung calls their ‘Always On Daily Board’ which displays all the relevant information about your day including the time, schedule, weather updates and of course pics from your library.
Jason Lee, Director and Head of Tablet Product Strategy Group at Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics said of the Tab A 10.5
We are proud to announce the Galaxy Tab A 10.5’’, Samsung’s latest addition to the tablet lineup with capabilities that make life easier, and more entertaining for the whole family. Featuring a refreshed design, enhanced parental controls and new home connectivity capabilities, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5’’ is the perfect complement for the modern household.
In terms of hardware, the tablet has a FullHD resolution 10.5″ display in a 16:10 screen-to-body ratio which is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage which can be expanded with microSD cards up to 400GB and a large 7,300mAh battery on board. The tablet includes four speakers on-board with Dolby Atmos and there’s a 5MP camera on the front for video conferencing and an 8MP camera on the rear for taking the odd picture (you monster) if that’s your thing.

As you can see above, the tablet will be available in three colours – Black, Blue and ‘Grey’ though I’d call it White – but Samsung will obviously make the decision on which colours make it to which markets as they announce local availability. We haven’t seen any information on a local launch, but we’ll update when Samsung Australia has something to share.
