Google is quickly moving from Oreo to Pie, with Google Australia leading the charge with a new pop-up event happening in Melbourne over the weekend. Google is opening a pop-up ‘Pie’ shop at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) tomorrow where you can grab yourself either a delicious Pie, or a Google Home Mini.

The MCG will play host to two AFL games this weekend, with the Hawthorn Hawks playing the Geelong Cats on Saturday and Melbourne playing the Sydney Swans.

The pop-up Pie shop is reminiscent of Google’s pop-up Donut shops which popped up around the US in the wake of the launch of the Google Home Mini last year and it appears the setup is similar. Just like at the Donut pop-up shops, you simply have to select two questions from a list, then ask Google Home Mini on display. Once Google Home Mini answers a box will drop out with either a delicious pie, or a Google Home Mini!

We’ve reached out to Google to see if the Pop-up Pie shops will be popping up anywhere else around Australia and we sure as heck are hoping they are.

We sent Jason from the Ausdroid team to the game to check it out and he’s advised that the store closes at game time, so get in before the game. This time around he won a delicious pie, however the pie comes with a bonus of a voucher for $29 off a Google Home Mini when ordered from the Google Store online – that’s $79 RRP discounted to $50 and you can order the exclusive Coral coloured home mini.

The shop opens at 11 am & close at game time if you want to head down tomorrow for the Melbourne vs Sydney Swans game.

We’d like to add additional props to the Google team for serving the pies with two sauces! And finally a big thank you to the staff for letting Jason in after closing.

Thanks: Blaise.

Dan is a die-hard Android fan. Some might even call him a lunatic. He's been an Android user since Android was a thing, and if there's a phone that's run Android, chances are he owns it (his Nexus collection is second-to-none) or has used it.

Dan's dedication to Ausdroid is without question, and he has represented us at some of the biggest international events in our industry including Google I/O, Mobile World Congress, CES and IFA.

Yes because I want Google listening to everything that I say around my home then storing it in their database, running algorithms on my every word to store and determine if I am an agitator or an ice cream licker.

Is it over? No more chances on Sunday?
