Sony invited Ausdroid to the harbour city to look at their latest speaker and earbud audio products targeted at Australians. There’s something for those who love spending time in the great outdoors. Let’s take a look at what they had to offer your ears.

SRS-XB01 and SRS-XB501G wireless speakers

The SRS-XB01 and SRS-XB501G wireless speakers that Dan recently explained in depth are both available for sale immediately.

The tiny IPX5 rated SRS-XB01 could be a good Christmas present stocking filler option. There are 5 colour options and a $49 RRP. The speakers feature built-in microphone for hands-free calling and an AUX input.

At the other end of the Sony Extra Bass range the portable SRS-XB501G speaker claims it can supply you with up to 16 hours of party music for $399 RRP. It comes in either blue or black. Handily it can also charge a smartphone or other device via a USB Type-C cable. It has Google Assistant built-in, meaning you can control it with your voice.

Sony WF-SP900 wireless earbuds

If the idea of wearing high-end wireless earbuds while swimming laps at a pool or in the ocean enthuses you then the WF-SP900 truly wireless sports earbuds which Dan highlighted in his IFA post could be just what you need in your swimlane at $499.95 RRP.

While there probably isn’t a huge market for them it’s good to see that Sony is still trying to push the boundaries of what is possible in portable audio so customers can enjoy music in more places than ever before. They were so confident of the waterproofing they let me leave the WF-SP900 in a fish tank for a while, the earbuds worked fine once removed and dried out.

The WF-SP900 are not only truly wireless and waterproof, they’re even resistant to salt water. With a IPX5/8 rating the earbuds allow you to swim in the pool or the sea up to 2m depth. They are washable of course so you can keep them clean after a swimming a kilometre or two and have 4GB storage onboard which means you can listen to audio with them even if your phone isn’t nearby.

All these audio devices can be purchased from Sony Australia online or at leading retailers.
