Rumoured Pixel 3 ‘Lite’ surfaces in Russia

By Daniel Tyson

The rumoured low-end Pixel phone has been a rumour for some time, but it may be closer to reality than we’ve previously thought with pictures of a device surfacing on Russian blog Rozetked.

It’s not the first time we’ve heard of Rozetked, with the site hosting a number of images and sample photos from the Pixel 3 XL before it was officially announced. Rumours have previously pointed to two low-end devices, one called ‘Bonito’ and the other ‘Sargo’. The site refers to this device as the Sargo model, so what’s happening with ‘Bonito’ which has had a few mentions previously is anyones guess.

In terms of Sargo though, the phone looks very much like a Pixel 3 in White, though with a bright yellow power button and as you’d expect from a budget device it’s a little bit thicker. It has some rather thick bezels around the 5.56″ 2220×1080 resolution IPS LCD display but as with the Pixel 3 there’s no notch.

The theory is that the phone will be aimed at the mid-range market and in keeping with that the phone has a Snapdragon 670 processor, 4GB of RAM (no microSD card slot) and 32GB (UFS 2.1 and eMMC 5.1) of storage with a 2915mAg battery. Google has also included a fingerprint sensor on the rear of the phone

The phone has one big step up on both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, with a headphone jack included at the top of the phone. There’s speakers at the bottom – at least two holes either side of the USB-C port on the base on this purported Pixel variant as well as an earpiece on the front.

Camera wise, there’s a 12MP rear camera – which it’s possible is the same module on both Pixel phones meaning it could be an outstanding shooter like it’s higher priced brothers, but only a single 8MP front-facing camera so no wide-angle group selfies here.

According to the sites sources the Pixel 3 Lite will be priced at $400 (or around $554.49 AUD)–$500 (or around $693.12 AUD) and be announced either at the end of this year, or soon after the beginning of next year. It’s likely not going to show up in markets where the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL is sold normally, so more emerging markets.

Dan is a die-hard Android fan. Some might even call him a lunatic. He's been an Android user since Android was a thing, and if there's a phone that's run Android, chances are he owns it (his Nexus collection is second-to-none) or has used it. Dan's dedication to Ausdroid is without question, and he has represented us at some of the biggest international events in our industry including Google I/O, Mobile World Congress, CES and IFA.

  • These Russian guys are very good at obtaining stuff. Most likely someone in the Google supply chain is connected to the Russian mafia.

I can't understand why Google wouldn't sell it in first world markets. I used to buy Nexus phones, but stopped with the Pixels because they are too expensive. So why wouldn't Google sell it here when they know that there is a marketable percentage of people who don't buy the current Pixels because of price. I bought a Nokia in the similar alleged price range of this Pixel Lite and I damn well would have bought the Pixel Lite if it was available. So to me, Google is missing out on sales. Doesn't matter how fricking awesome the Pixel 3 is, I aint fricking buying it at the price they want.
