Michael Kors Sofie gets a 2.0 update with NFC, GPS and more

Wear OS smartwatches are going through an upgrade cycle at the moment, with recently announced updates from a number of manufacturers hitting the news. Today it’s Michael Kors with an upgrade to their Sofia watch, thoughtfully named Sofia 2.0.

We’ve been waiting to see watches sporting the new Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor hit the market, and… it seems we’ll have to keep waiting. That’s not to say Sofia’s updates aren’t welcome, though.

Sofia 2.0 brings a number of new features that are highly desirable in Wear OS devices: GPS, a heart rate monitor, NFC and a couple of new buttons that allow the latest Wear OS features and navigation to work better. Colours are said to be gold, pink and pink/silver.

The watch will be available mid-year (reports say “summer”, so we’re assuming that’s US summer), which might be the best indication of lead-time on manufacture and design of these devices, and might explain why we’re yet to see the avalanche of SD3100 watches our hearts so desire.

We’ve no local launch information yet, although the original Sofie watch launched in Australia at $579 in 2017. We’d expect the 2.0 version to be in the same ballpark, and will update with local launch information as it’s announced.

Update, January 17 – We’ve heard from local representatives that the Australian launch will occur in late May, but we’ve not been given any pricing information.
