If the LG W7 hybrid smartwatch, announced alongside the V40 back in October piqued your interest, then online e-tailer Kogan is giving you the opportunity to get your hands on one offering it as a pre-order bonus with the LG V40 smartphone.

Kogan is now taking pre-orders for the LG V40, which goes on-sale on the 7th of February through MobileCiti, and JB Hifi for $1,299 RRP. Kogan is offering the V40 with 128GB of on-board storage in Platinum Grey and Morooccan Blue colour options, while MobileCiti appears to have the Carmin Red and Platinum Grey colurs – JB Has yet to list it on their website as yet, and neither have the W7 smartwatch – which Kogan lists as valued at $379 – listed as a pre-order bonus.

The LG W7 watch includes a more traditional take on the watch than we’ve seen previously with smartwatches with a mechanical movement sitting atop an LCD display. The watch was developed in partnership with Soprod SA of Switzerland, a manufacturer of Swiss-made mechanical and quartz movements and certainly looks good with a 1.2-inch 360 x 360 resolution LCD display mounted in a stainless steel body that includes lugs for attaching standard 22mm watch bands.

The hybrid concept allows for 2 days of normal use as a smartwatch, with an additional ‘three to four days’ using just the analog only mode. If you’re going off the grid completely you can use the mechanical watch alone without the smart features, which can run for up to 100 days on a single charge. The analog watch mode can display additional information including ‘altimeter, barometer, stopwatch, timer and compass directions’.

The internals aren’t hugely impressive with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 platform, 768MB RAM and 4GB of on-board storage included. Full Specs:

  • Chipset: Qualcomm® Snapdragon Wear™ 2100 Platform
  • Operating System: Wear OS by Google
  • Display: 1.2-inch LCD (360 x 360 / 300ppi)
  • Size: 44.5 x 45.4 x 12.9mm
  • Weight: 79.5g
  • Memory: 4GB eMMC / 768MB LPDDR3
  • Battery: 240mAh
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11 b, g, n / Bluetooth 4.2 BLE / USB Type-C 2.0
  • Sensors: 9-Axis / Pressure
  • Movement: 2 Hands / Micro Gearbox
  • Color: Cloud Silver
  • Other: IP68 Water and Dust Resistance / Quartz Movement

We’ve reached out to LG to see if they’ll be offering the W7 for general sale here in Australia, but it’s not yet showing on the LG Australia website so it may remain an online exclusive for Kogan. Kogan will let you purchase the watch separately for $379 if you really do want to get your hands on one.

If you want to place a pre-order, you can head over to Kogan and get one in now.

Dan is a die-hard Android fan. Some might even call him a lunatic. He's been an Android user since Android was a thing, and if there's a phone that's run Android, chances are he owns it (his Nexus collection is second-to-none) or has used it.

Dan's dedication to Ausdroid is without question, and he has represented us at some of the biggest international events in our industry including Google I/O, Mobile World Congress, CES and IFA.
