February 5th is the beginning of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Pig this year, and to celebrate Telstra has re-purposed their 26-metre digital billboard outside their Melbourne store to display personalised messages to loved ones. They’re also offering great deals on the Galaxy Note 9 (and iPhone XR) with great rates on international calls.

The message board has been seen previously displaying messages of love on Valentines Day over the last few years, but has been re-purposed for Chinese New Year. From February 1-5, all you need to do is text your name and the name of a loved one in English to 0484 800 800 (standard national SMS charge) and it will appear on the Telstra Discovery Store billboard on Bourke Street, Melbourne.

If you or your bae aren’t in Melbourne, you’ll still be able to witness the message with a picture message being sent to your phone so you can share it on social media, or just with your loved one.

Kevin Teoh, Telstra’s Consumer Executive said

Last year’s Lunar New Year celebration was so popular we wanted to do it again, helping connect people in a fun, engaging way. Stores with Chinese-speaking staff around Australia are celebrating with LNY decorations and complimentary premium Piggy Banks for those who come in and say hello to our teams.

As well as the fun billboard, Telstra is also offering a pretty great deal on a Galaxy Note 9, which are aimed at connecting you with family and friends whether they’re here in Australia or around the world.

For a limited time, Telstra is offering an iPhone XR Red (128GB) or Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Blue (128GB) for $88 per month on a Lease plan, saving $504 over 24 months on the usual price. The deal is available online only with a Min cost $2,112 over 24 months when phone is returned in good working order. Under the plan you’ll get unlimited calls and text to 15 destinations including China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and more.

If you don’t need a new phone, you can also take advantage of a $0 international calling pack included in a $49 BYO mobile plan, with access to the same international destinations. Or if you don’t need that you can grab a $30 Pre-Paid SIM with 30GB of data for a special price of just $8. Available in Telstra stores and online.
