If you’ve been looking for a smart home display screen but all the screens are too big for you, you’re in luck – Amazon’s Echo Show 5 brings Alexa to a cute and compact 5.5-inch screen.

The new device sticks to Show’s familiar wedge-like design, just smaller. And cuter. At 5.5-inches the display is smaller than most current smartphones, making it perfect to place on a desk or a beside table.

Behind the screen there’s a 1.85-inch speaker that should deliver the quality audio Amazon’s Echo products have been known for. You can also output the audio to a bigger speaker through the 3.5mm port.

Around the front there’s a HD camera for video calling, and there’s a shutter switch just above it so you can disable it if you want to (that’s new – Echo Show lacks the shutter switch). Other physical controls on top appear to be the same with volume up/down and a microphone mute toggle.

There’s also a magnetic stand that will let you adjust the angle of the display – that’s an extra $30.

Echo Show 5 will be available in the line’s standard black Charcoal and white bSandstone colours.

It looks like this could be the new smart home display battleground, with Echo Show 5 answering Lenovo’s Google Assistant-powered Smart Clock at the same $129 price point.

You can pre-order now at amazon.com.au/echoshow5, or pick one up at JB Hi-fi or Officeworks in June.
