When Huawei were added to the US Entity List it was unclear just how long they would be able to access Android and its updates. They then got a three month reprieve thanks to arguments made by Google to the US government which puts the deadline awfully close to the release of Android Q.

Today on a UK Huawei help page they have listed the phones that they are preparing to update Android Q for.

We are confident that our most popular devices, including the P30 series, will be able to access Android Q. We have been working with third parties for many months to ensure devices will be able to receive Android Q updates. Technical preparations and testing has already begun for over 17 devices. In fact our Mate 20 Pro has already been given approval to receive Android Q as and when it is released by Google.

The Huawei devices submitted for approval are:

  • P30 Pro
  • P30
  • Mate 20
  • Mate 20 Pro
  • PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 20 RS
  • P30 lite
  • P smart 2019
  • P smart+ 2019
  • P smart Z
  • Mate 20 X
  • Mate 20 X (5G)
  • P20 Pro
  • P20
  • Mate 10 Pro
  • PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 10
  • Mate 10
  • Mate 20 Lite

This of course doesn’t mean that all of these devices will in fact receive Android Q but that Huawei have submitted approval for them to receive it — but only the Mate 20 Pro have been approved at this stage.

The folks at Android Authority have also been told that Google Services should work as usual on these devices after receiving the Android Q update — it has been widely questioned whether they will be able to continue to access all Google Services including the Play Store due to the Entity List restrictions.

The Huawei reprieve ends in August, the same month that Google are expected to launch Android Q to the world. If the Entity List holds firmly in place you can be sure that Google will be working hard to get Android Q ready before the end of the reprieve — after all that is a LOT of devices they won’t be able to get their new version out to if they don’t.
