Optus has quietly added 2 new smartphone which are ZTE-based but are coming under their own branding as the Optus X Power 2 and the Optus X Wave respectfully.

The devices, which have similar specs but are based at 2 very different price points, offer some interesting specs for your hard earned bucks at the end of the day, so lets have a look at what both devices offer individually:

Optus X Power 2

The Optus X Power 2 is the follow up to last year’s X Power, which was a pretty good little prepaid device — I have one as a back up device just in case. Looking at the spec runsheet, the X Power 2 is a compelling follow up device if you’re after something simple and easy to use.

To sweeten the deal for both phones, Optus are offering two bonuses which include the ability to redeem a fitness watch valued at $79 – although it is unsure what type or brand the fitness smartwatch is for this price.

There is also the ability to obtain two free recharges when you complete the first $30+ Epic Data recharge. The deal is:

Available to new handset customers recharging on Epic Data Plan $30 and above. Must activate and recharge included SIM. 2nd and 3rd recharges of same value added on days 28 and 56. Recharge within 30 days of activation.

These deals are limited with the offer ending 31/3/20, unless otherwise extended.

From the picture appears to be the Alfawise Y7 smartwatch. This is a watch that looks like you can pick up for around $30 from eBay (shipped from Aus/China). Spec says 1.3″ TFT, IP67, 170mAh battery, heart rate monitor and magnetic charger. includes blood pressure, oxygen sensor and usual tracking stuff. So don’t think that the $79 is honest, but then again, I can’t find anywhere that sells them locally with a warranty, so who knows.

They both lack ram and internal storage.
They’ll perform very poorly.
In 12 months they’ll be landfill.

They’d be ok if they have more ram and internal storage.
Then they would be worth the extra money.
