Wunderlist set for 2020 transition to Microsoft To Do

There are a lot of task management applications available in the Play Store. Sadly for 10+ million user install base of Wunderlist, they’re set to make a transition to another option in the near future. In a Blog Post the Wunderlist team have announced that as of May 6th 2020 the app will cease to function.

It’s time to let you know that on May 6th, 2020, we plan to shut down Wunderlist.

Why are we doing this now? We’ve stopped releasing new features and big updates to Wunderlist, so as the app ages it’s become more difficult to maintain. As technology continues to advance, we can’t guarantee that Wunderlist will continue to work as it should, or as we’d like it to. With all our latest updates, we’re confident in To Do being the best alternative for Wunderlist now and so we believe it’s the right time to make the next move.

Clearly the want and intent of their team is for users to migrate to Microsoft To Do and with the migration options, they’re making it easy. The app is a solid replacement (I haven’t spent much time with Wunderlist or To Do) but there isn’t anything immediately obvious that you lose in functionality. You’ll need to have a Microsoft Account to make the transition to their To Do app though, clearly this is part of the driver for the change: more users on the Microsoft platforms.

If you’re just looking to settle into a task manager, clearly Wunderlist is not the choice for anyone now. But if you’re looking for a long term solution, you should take a serious look at all the options including To Do.
