With Huawei still embattled in some sort of USA vs China dispute over trade, security or who knows what, the company is still swinging to try and take a hit at the western smartphone market.

Unfortunately, 2019 has done a fair bit of damage to the company’s consumer image. Huawei can not officially ship Android devices with any of the software that actually makes Android good, eg Google Play Services and the associated apps eg everything.

We reviewed Huawei’s Mate 30 Pro previously, which had exceptional hardware, magic cameras and no useful or usable software pre installed. Out of the box, we referred to it as a smart paperweight.

You can sideload most of what you need, but that’s something that could be stopped at a moment’s notice, and it’s not really a “consumer” thing to have to do. My family isn’t side loading anything. We say all this to preface that today’s leaks of the very nice looking Huawei P40 with triple camera array, gorgeous design and no headphone jack is almost a moot point in the West.

As you can see from the leaked images, Huawei has continued the trend of excellent design and craftsman ship in the P40, and it will likely be the most beautiful and well made device we’d recommend completely avoiding.

We truly hope that whatever the international dispute is between the USA and China is, that it goes away and allows Huawei to reenter the first tier Android market and keep the pressure up on the rest of the industry, because competition spurs innovation.
