Our homes are steadily becoming more and more connected with speakers, cameras, IoT and of course other security options. It’s the security of your home where Arlo firmly embeds themselves offering a range of cameras and now, another video doorbell. The Arlo Essential wire-free doorbell is another addition to the arsenal of equipment offered that further increases visibility around your home and communication visitors.

This release is a wireless alternative to the Arlo Video Doorbell with similar specs, but no need to have (or install) a hardwired doorbell system. The notable specs of the Essential wire-free doorbell include:

  • 180-degree viewing angle so you can see packages, or exactly what people are doing at your door
  • Full HD video and a system that minimises lag to your mobile for video calls
  • As you would expect, two-way audio and personalised alerts
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Powered by a rechargeable battery but capable of being hardwired for continuous power

Brad Little, Vice President & Managing Director APAC made comment on the features and capabilities of the doorbell and what Arlo Smart, their subscription service, adds to the device:

Unlike other video doorbells that can lag in response time, our new Essential Wire-Free Video Doorbell leverages the latest hardware and software advancements for swift, comprehensive monitoring. Industry-leading picture and audio quality combined with our AI-based subscription service, Arlo Smart, enable complete front door protection. Users can receive smart notifications and secure, simple access via the Arlo App, allowing them to quickly and easily live stream or respond to guests.

The device has an RRP of AU$329.00 placing it around the ballpark of the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus and will be available through the usual retailers nationally mid-December 2020, just in time for Christmas.

Phil, do you know if this a standalone solution or do you need other Arlo cameras?
I was disappointed to find that the Arlo Audio Doorbell requires you to have their cameras.

I assume there is also an ongoing monthly/annual fee for online data storage and functionality?
