As a generic and generally accurate statement, home routers aren’t great. Particularly if you’re a high-level user or gamer, they often don’t have the processing capacity to meet your needs. Asus has delivered to market a top-level gaming router that has a host of features for gamers and power users.
Being an RoG device, there is of course the RGB factor but there’s so much more to it than just aesthetics. The specs, particularly for a router are impressive:
- 2.0 GHz quad-core 64-bit Broadcom® CPU
- Dual 2.5 Gbps ports, 1 dedicated to gaming with zero user configuration required, the other internal links
- Broadcom Wi-Fi 6 chipset with RangeBoost
The throughput on Wi-Fi 6 is huge, offering up to 6,000 Mbps (utilising the dual bands) and the wired connection capacity is more than enough to max out any NBN connection.
RaneBoost and AiMesh
For larger homes, the features in the GT-AX6000 includes RangeBoost Plus which is a proprietary technology that improves coverage for all WiFi devices. If the RangeBoost doesn’t fully meet your coverage needs, it’s compatible with ASUS AiMesh to give you full coverage throughout your home.
The router has the capacity to prioritise gaming traffic automatically to remove the dreaded lag and reduce ping to your gaming rig. Either by using the prioritised LAN-1 Port or by utilising the software features. The best bit, like most things these days, is there’s an app to quickly set up and control your router.
We’ll be taking a closer look at a GT-AX6000 soon, so stay tuned to the site for a detailed review along with pricing once it’s available within Australia.
