Battery and charging capabilities are the new battlefield in mobile tech and at Mobile World Congress overnight, OPPO has announced a new benchmark in charging at 150W SUPERVOOC (with Battery Health Engine) and 240W SUPERVOOC flash charging tech. The latter with the capacity to take your battery from 0% to 100% charged in just 9 minutes.
SUPERVOOC and Flash Charge – Leaps forward
One important facet of charging is the fact you’re moving electricity around which creates heat. To manage this, as well as the long term health of your battery (80% capacity maintained over 1,600 charges) OPPO has its own Battery Health Engine (BHE). This is a customised battery management chip with the aim of improving not just the immediate charging capabilities but the longer-term experience for users which is achieved by:
- Tracking Charge speed and current battery state to adjust the charging current maximising speed
- Utilisng safety protection to ensure the adaptor, handset and cable are all protected: Ensuring users are too
- Using Battery Healing Technology
By improving the electrolyte formula, the electrodes are continuously repaired during the battery’s charge and discharge cycles, forming a more stable and durable solid electrolyte interface (SEI) that always stays in a perfect state in real-time. This helps in reducing the wear and tear of the positive and negative electrodes of the battery, therefore, enhancing battery performance and extending battery lifespan.
This ties together neatly with the use of Gallium Nitride (GaN) charging, a great way to increase efficiency, reduce heat and the physical charger block size.
These technologies will be integrated into everything from the mid-range devices and up in OPPO’s upcoming devices. In an interesting step, the 150W SUPERVOOC will make its first market appearance with an upcoming (likely the NORD) OnePlus device, before spreading its wings into other device streams.
