Amazon Australia has today announced the launch of “free” 1 Day Delivery on hundreds of thousands of eligible items including toys, household and personal care, electronics, books, pantry staples, for Prime members in most areas of Melbourne and Sydney (see the full list of postcodes).
Prime is Amazon’s membership program which costs $59 a year prepaid or $6.99/month with a monthly membership so delivery isn’t really “free”, you’ve paid part of the shipping cost.
That said if you often buy products from Amazon Australia (as they want you to), then you make back the membership fee very quickly and come out ahead compared to buying the same products elsewhere and paying a shipping fee for each one.
Amazon attracts people to join Prime by offering other benefits such as Prime Video streaming, Twitch.tv membership etc as well as fast shipping at no extra cost for some products.
Prime members who are not in an eligible postcode will still benefit from free delivery in as fast as two days on eligible orders and will also experience enhancements in delivery speed as Amazon Australia continues to invest in their operations and logistics network.
Over the coming months, Amazon Australia aims to expand product selection and delivery areas eligible for Amazon’s Prime “free” One-Day Delivery to provide more Australian Prime members access to even more products, faster.
Amazon Australia has more than doubled its operational footprint in 2022 with the launch of its first robotics fulfilment centre located in Kemps Creek in western Sydney earlier this year.
With this expansion, the company now has storage space across six fulfilment centres, doubling its capacity for small to medium sized items, such as consumer electronics, books, toys, cosmetics and pantry items. This expanded fulfilment network will support many of the small and medium size Australian businesses who use Fulfilment by Amazon to seamlessly service customers around Australia.
