Despite rumours that Samsung would show off the hotly anticipated Galaxy S9 (and the S9+) at CES, president of Samsung’s mobile business DJ Koh has confirmed that the official announcement for the phones will be made at Mobile World Congress.

Samsung has traditionally announced the latest Galaxy S series handsets on the Press day immediately preceeding the start of Mobile World Congress. The exception is the launch of the Galaxy S8 last year, which was held back until the end of March after the disastrous launch, and subsequent recall of the Galaxy Note 7.

As well as getting our first official look at the phone, Mr Koh also advised that the on-sale date for the Galaxy S9 would be announced at the Mobile World Congress event.

We’ve seen a number of leaks of the Galaxy S9 to date, including manufactured renders and supply chain leaks showing off the front display panels. With over a month left until Mobile World Congress it’s likely we’ll be seeing even more leaks before it becomes official.
