Announced after the hubbub of Mobile World Congress earlier this year, LG’s G7 ThinQ is now confirmed as launching in Australia on June 7, with an asking price of $1,099.

LG has confirmed in a press release this afternoon that its 2018 flagship smartphone will go on sale at JB Hi-Fi and Mobileciti for $1,099. The LG G7 ThinQ will be offered in a 4GB RAM / 64GB storage single model, and of course for the real data junkies, there’s the option to expand storage via MicroSD. LG’s G7 ThinQ is IP68 rated, and features Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 processor as well.

As Dan observed in the announcement post,ย LG’s G7 ThinQ features strong camera specs – dual 16MP sensors on the rear and an 8MP Wide Angle (80ยฐ) sensor with f/1.9 aperture on the front. The sensors on the rear offer different options, with the primary offering a Super Wide Angle 107ยฐ field of view with a very respectable f/1.9 aperture, while the secondary 16MP sensor has an even better f/1.7 aperture, meaning it should be shooting excellent shots in all manner of lighting conditions.

The announcement refers only to a channel launch, via retail partners JB Hi-Fi and Mobileciti. As we know, getting mobiles on to carriers these days is getting harder and harder, with it being an uphill battle to get a carrier to accept anything for sale that seemingly isn’t from Apple or Samsung. It’s disappointing that LG wasn’t able to secure a launch carrier partner, but they’ve more than made up for this with their fairly sharp pricing.

At $1,099, the LG G7 ThinQ will thoroughly undercut Samsung’s S9 pricing (the cheapest of which starts at $1,199), and matches Huawei’s P20 Pro (which appears, from our review, to be the best smartphone on sale at the moment). With the recently-confirmed HTC U12+ heading for our shores soon, LG’s G7ย  ThinQ faces some tough competition after a couple of disappointing mobile launches from LG. Unlike past years, though, the LG G7 ThinQ looks impressive both in specification and in hand .. we look forward to having some time with LG’s new phone in the next week or two so we can give it a thorough Ausdroid review.

It amazes me how these companies like LG with this flagship which is ordinary at best and the Chinese manufacturer with the P20 pro can price their phones so high. so ridiculaoualy high above a thousand dollars for these types of phones for what is essentially a cheap copy of the iPhone x especially the front of these phones is a blatant copy of the iPhone X .it is absurd they are both not even best in class the iPhone x and Samsung S9 are still way better phones than both this LG and p20 .

LG cut corners on almost everything yet still have the nerve to ask these prices.

Removes it as a competitor to the 1+ 6 !

It looks to be a good phone , the extra loud speaker is very attractive to an older bloke with ears that have seen a lot of industry . A 6 gb of RAM model would have been nice though , and also a battery with a few more hours in the tank would be nice , I suppose however , a bigger battery may compromise that echo chamber thing that gives us that nice loud volume ? There is always a compromise on a smart phone to be made somewhere ?. For my money , currently the S9+ is… Read more ยป
