If you’re like me, devices that rely overly on numbers rather than names or something get a bit confusing, and so it is for me with keeping track of HMD Nokia’s new handsets. Anyhow, at the Nokia 7.1 event the other week, there was promise of Android 9 Pie for Nokia handsets, and a week later, the first phone in line for the update has received it.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global, announced on Twitter that the Android 9 update is available now to test in Nokia Beta Labs for the Nokia 6.1 Plus. Users can head to the website and sign in to get started. You will need to enter your device IMEI number and your network operator in order to sign up. After successfully enrolling your device, you will receive the Android 9 Pie beta build via an over-the-air (OTA) update.
This is one of the many reasons that we recommend Nokia phones to people looking for a great phone without spending thousands on a flagship smartphone; you get the same great experience, excellent software support and frequent, early updates, and you get a bit of nostalgia in owning a Nokia in 2018.
Can’t beat that.
Any word on if or when the 6.1 plus is coming to Australia?
