Some companies have a stellar record with updating their older devices, but others not so much. Huawei unfortunately sits in the latter category but after promising updates for quite a while it seems that they are finally going to be following through in the coming weeks.

Chinese tech site mydrivers has reported that Huawei’s consumer business CEO Yu Chengdong has taken to Weibo to announce which models will be receiving the new Android version, 9.0 Pie. The update will bring EMUI 9.0 along with all the goodies that brings to Android 9.0. The phones that will be receiving the update include:

  • P20
  • P20 Pro
  • Mate 10
  • Mate 10 Pro
  • Mate 10 Porsche Design
  • Mate RS Porsche Design

Yu Chengdong also confirmed a date – November 10 – with all of the above models available for upgrade on that date. To get this update the “upgrade early adoption” needs to be enabled within the settings of the device — “Upgrade Service” APP – “Services” – “Upgrade Early Adoption”.

EMUI 9.0 brings a lot of extra functionality to Huawei devices including sleep time, improved system response time and GPU Turbo 2.0. At this stage it is unknown whether the update will be available to all devices worldwide but we suspect it is just China for now. We have reached out to Huawei for further details on an Australian release of this update.

Totally agree, the Mate 9 is a sterling device and should be getting the upgrade.
