TCL already fired some warning shots with the TCL 20 5G and the TCL 20 SE, now they’ve reloaded with the TCL 20R 5G. It’s a very affordable 5G device landing in the market at $349.00 outright or $299 on Vodafone and carries some impressive specs and features for the price:

  • As the name suggests, it’s a 5G device
  • NFC which is now a must-have for any device
  • 180Hz touch sampling and 90Hz refresh on the 6.52-inch screen
  • Powere by a MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset
  • Fingerprint, face unlock or swipe/pin unlock
  • 4,500mAh battery for all day use

This marks the 6th device from TCL in four months, which is quite a feat for any manufacturer. Given the previous impressive results, there’s no reason to expect this will be any different. A statement backed up by Channel Manager for TCL Communication Australia, NZ and Pacific Islands: Joseph Corrente

“The 20 R 5G will enable many more people to experience 5G for the first time. However, it goes much further than price alone, as we have been able to deliver some very exciting features that we believe make the 20 R 5G best-in-class. When added to our broader range, it demonstrates our leadership in 5G smartphones across affordability, accessibility, quality and performanceโ€

In previous reviews, we’ve seen the NXTVISION technology lift and provide excellent colour reproduction across photos, video and streaming media. With the 90Hz refresh rate on this screen, that will continue to be a noticeable feature of the 20 R 5G on the 6.52-inch screen.

For a sub $350 outright, 5G device a triple camera setup is the most you could realistically ask for and TCL has delivered it. A 2MP depth sensor and 2MP macro lens add quite a bit of flexibility to the photos you can take. The post-processing looks to be the same as we’ve seen in other recent devices, which may see a little oversaturation of colours but we’ll check in more detail when a review unit arrives.

For those running corporate device rollouts, the TCL 20 R 5G is also verified by Google as an Android Enterprise Recommended device. The colours available are either Granite Grey and Lazurite Blue and fits the look that TCL has been working hard to establish. Check out Harvey Norman, Officeworks & Mobileciti if you’re keen on the $349.00 outright price, or Vodafone’s $299 pricing if you’re happy to wait just a touch longer.

C’mon Phil, are you seriously buying into this nonsense?
