Android 12 is almost here, but if you’ve got a recent Pixel device and are willing to take the risk then you can have the Beta now. The process to get the update as an OTA is actually really simple:
- Head to the Android Beta page
- Select the eligible device that you want to install Android 12 on
- Wait for the OTA to be sent to your device
The eligible devices include the Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a (5G) and the Pixel 5.
Now, of course, there is the old fashioned way of downloading the factory images and flashing your device. There are — depending on your point of view — pros and cons to both. By flashing a factory image, the likely pathway for developers, you’ll lose everything on your phone. Where if you choose the OTA it’s a far smoother experience, but there is the chance some apps may not like the update.
When we say risk: This is Beta software, so there are features that may not be finished or outright broken. If you choose to put the Beta on a device, we recommend that it’s not critical to your daily use.

Installed the Android 12 beta on my Pixel 5. No issues so far, even Google Pay works (unlike Android 11 beta).
I jumped in on a spare device. Time to find the bugs and report them.
