Some HTC owners are being frustrated at the moment by ads appearing on their keyboard over the weekend.
The TouchPal keyboard installed by default on HTC phones is showing ads above the word suggestions. The ads are showing on a variety of phones including the newly launched HTC U11. The ads aren’t terribly intrusive but are very definitely unwelcome for any user.
HTC through their main Twitter account has for the moment begun advising users on Twitter to uninstall any updates for the keyboard and today HTC UK has acknowledged the fault and advised they are working on a fix.
Due to an error, some customers are seeing ads on the phone keyboard. We're working to fix the error and remove these as quickly as possible

If you have begun seeing ads, probably best to follow the advise of HTC and uninstall any updates…or install another keyboard like GBoard, Swiftkey or any of the many keyboards available on Google Play.
Was this just an accidental early release of something they’re planning?
